Danny was a close friend of mine from our freshman year at Burroughs until his sudden death of a heart attack at the age of 51.  I will always remember the good times we had and his wonderful family.  Danny attended UCLA after high school, then entered the Marine Corp. and fought in the Viet Nam War.  During the war, I corresponded with him often, and I still have all of his correspondence to me during that terrible time.  After his discharge, he went on to have great success as a controller in the auto industry.

If I recall correctly, there was some school event which we all attended--I want to say that Danny was accepting his selection as some sort of student body office at the time.  Of course, I had seen and was favorably disposed to this delightful, friendly young man but I was stunned when he took that opportunity to sing a rousing version of the song "Volare."  I would say it was a stand out memory for me but it may never have happened.  JT

In some classes we had alphabetical seating, so my desk was next to Danny's (Kochman - Mangapit). He was such a sweet and shy guy. I had a big crush on him but never expressed it, except maybe in a valentine. This might have been in middle school. I guess we didn't still exchange valentine's at Burroughs. wink
