John L. Downs, 38, died May 31, 1982 in Milltown, Indiana, in a drowning accident.  He had been trying to rescue his son, Nathan.

Mr. downs, who was born in North Carolina, grew up in Riverside.  He attended Chemawa Junior High and graduated from Ramona High School in 1961.  He was a veteran of the Air Force and belonged to the Christ Gospel Church.

Survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, John and Nathan; a daughter, Anna; two stepsons, Drexel and Meredith Sexton; a stepdaughter, Larhesa Sexton; his twin sister, Pat Alexander of Riverside; and his parents, John Downs of North Carolina and Dorothy Jones of San Diego.

Services were held in Jeffersonville, Indiana
