In Memory

Debra Noell

Debbie died very young. She was in her early twenties when she passed away from breast cancer. I will always remember Debbie's laugh. She had the greatest laugh and prettiest smile.

Debra was always a sweet, sweet girl. I could see her pretty smile all the way from the other end of the Annex. Sat beside her in Algebra... we had such a good time we took the same class twice.

Fun, and what a sunny personality! Hearing her giggle and laugh kept me at ease. Don't believe Debra ever met a stranger, always a friend. Indeed, a real breadth of fresh air. We are so lucky!

I will always remember Debra's warm and sunny smile. She was a very special person and she will certainly be missed by everyone.

Debbie and I had a blast together in school. She always made me laugh. We had silly CB names for each other and loved to go dancing at the T-Byrd. I was always so shy - Debbie helped me meet a lot of new friends. The best memories are from our graduation trip to the beach. After school I moved a way and we lost touch. It was very sad to hear that she had such a short life. I too will always remember her smile, laugh, and her love of life.

I will never forget Debbie. We were in gym class together and had to come up with a creative dance that we were partners on. What an experience that was! I was so uncoordinated and Debbie started calling me "Spaz" and from that point on, she never called me Linda again. I would see her at the mall and different places and she would yell at me (SPAZ) from a distance and that let me know that she was there!

A great person, and what a fantastic laugh she had. Bless her heart, I was so sad when I learned of her death.

I am so sorry to hear about Debbie. We were great friends in Jr. High. We spent many an afternoon together listening to Carly Simon and talking about boys (whoever we had a crush on that week). She was a great girl and I have many fond memories of our friendship.

I first met Debbie in Mr. Soboray's "Consumer Math" class, and she was just a riot. She always kept me and the rest of the class laughing.
I didn't see her again until 1990 when I ran into her at the Ringling Brother's Circus and she was very thin, and it was apparent that she was ill.
She passed away in 1991, and I spoke with her mother, and she told me that Debbie had been fighting cancer for 5 years. First breast cancer, and then when she thought she was out of the woods, the doctors found that it had spread to her lungs. Debbie's mother passed away a few years later, also from cancer.
Debbie's death really affected me and because of that, I realized how important it is for all of us women to have our yearly mammograms. Rest In Peace, Debbie.

Debbie Noell was my next door neighbor growing up from late elementary school throughout High School, and later years when I was in town visiting my folks. She had to be one of the nicest people I have ever known, and she was one of the most beautiful young women I have ever seen, with an infectious laugh.

Terrible loss to Breast Cancer so young. She used to make all of the guys just melt whenever they came over to see her-- many guys in school asked me to help them get to know her better. In the 70s she often wore cut-off Jeans, and a halter top after school to go down to the barn. She loved riding those horses, and the "country western" lifestyle.

She and my sister Susan (CSHS '81) were very close friends for many years. She also loved to go to Country Western bars, and others to go partying and dancing. My sis said she got alot of attention when they were out.

When I was 12, the neighborhood kids were all playing hide-and-seek with tag at her house, and I was chasing her back to "base"-- I took a short cut and tried to jump a cut bush and landed short in it, and ended up getting a deep gash in my leg that needed sewing up that night in the ER. The thing bled like stink-- and I remember Debbie crying hysterically when she saw me walking back to my house with blood flying out of my leg.

She came by with cookies a few times the next few days to try to cheer me up.

She was also a very brave cancer battler, right to the end... Amazing Courage.

I still miss our talks under the apple tree between our two properties when we were growing up. I still remember some of her "quotable quotes" to this day.
