Evon Henderson Mayo

June 25, 2022

Ms. Evon (Henderson) Mayo, 58, transitioned this life suddenly on June 25, 2022 in Norfolk, VA. Evon is survived by her daughter; Kisha (Mayo) Lewis (Calvin) her grandchildren, Winter and Jewel, her brother; Roger Henderson Jr. (Greta), her nieces; Chelisea and MarKeisha as well as her ex-husband N. Maurice Mayo. She as well shared a love for her Aunts, Uncle and a host of cousins of the Hale family. She had a special place in her heart for her extended family The Lewis’s. She outlived her parents, Roger W. Henderson (2018) and Carrie W. (Hale) Henderson (2022). Evon was born in Roanoke County Virginia at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on April 24,1964 to Roger W. Henderson and Carrie W. (Hale) Henderson. She attended Cave Spring High School. Then went onto attend Dominion Business School where she obtained her license as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Evon worked as a hospital, nursing home and private duty nurse. On August 8, 1985, she was blessed with a sweet precious daughter, Kisha who was the most important part of her life. She continued her career as a CNA and PCA for over 30 years. She enjoyed time with her daughter and just adored her grandchildren Winter and Jewel. Evon liked to travel occasionally and loved to eat a good steak. She continuously invested in her relationship and walk with God. One of her expressions to show her love for God was doing praise dancing. She loved music and life because of that, she chose any form of dancing, and most definitely jamming to gospel music. Evon was an introvert and typically the quiet one in the room. However, her biggest desire was sharing cohesive and fun times with family. A homegoing service will be held on July 9, 2022 at Serenity Funeral Home 126 Gilmer Avenue NW Roanoke, VA 24016. The wake is scheduled for 10 a.m. and funeral will follow at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at Williams Memorial Park.
