LAURA MCCLANAHAN OBITUARY
Laura Lee McClanahan, 44, of Roanoke, died Saturday morning, May 22, 2010. The daughter of Jack B. and Sidney "Sid" L. McClanahan, she was born on May 25, 1965, in Roanoke, Va. Laura received an Outstanding College Students of America award in 1987, and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts degree on May 14, 1988.She was employed by Carilion Hospital for over 20 years, first in the ER at Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a patient representative and later as a compliance officer for Carilion. Laura was diagnosed with diabetes at age 8 and was given dialysis for over 5 years, working every day until the last few years. She is survived by sisters, Jackie L. Porter and husband, John, and Sallie J. Godwin and husband, Joseph; a brother, Michael S. McClanahan; nieces, Jennifer Porter and baby, Olivia, and Emilie Petersen and husband, Justin, and baby, Shane; and nephews, Jacob Porter and baby, Oscar, and Andrew Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jim Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel. 540-989-3131.
