July 7, 1957 January 20, 2017 Dianna Boardwine of Roanoke, Va., and Sammamish, Wash., passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017. Dianna was a devoted mother, a beloved sister and a loyal friend to many. The second of three children, Dianna was born in Roanoke, Va., on July 7, 1957, to Warren Boardwine and Mildred Townsend Sandridge. She grew up in Roanoke, Va., and lived a full and wonderful childhood (Think Andy Griffith!). A natural beauty and runner, she excelled at ballet, and devoted time daily to exercise, socializing and above all being a bundle of energy and joy. Dianna was preceded in death by her parents; and her stepfather, Graham Sandridge. She is survived by her two daughters, Allison and Adrianne Schmahl; her sister, Susan Boardwine Dorsey; her brother, Roger Boardwine (Mary); half sister, Scotti Hartman (Howard); stepmother, Rosemary "Nonnie" Boardwine; along with two nieces, Rachel Dorsey Hall and Grace Boardwine; and five nephews, Andrew, John and William Dorsey, Alex Boardwine and Jackson Hartman. Dianna graduated from Northside High School in the Class of 1974, two years early to pursue her goal as a ballerina. She achieved her goal and danced for the Hartford City Ballet. She went on later to pursue her college degree, graduating from Antioch University in 2008 with a BS in Psychology. She then began a career working as an educational assistant in the Issaquah School District. She loved her job and genuinely loved her students. They were the reason she enjoyed every working day. Wherever Dianna was something fun was sure to happen. She was always the life of the party. Dianna was a total jokester, having to get the last laugh on everything, a real prankster. She was a long-time member of The Gourmet Group when living in Minnesota, and Sahalie Ski Club at Snoqualmie Pass, Wash., becoming an extended family member with this group of 50 families. Dianna will be greatly missed! On Saturday, February 4, 2017, there will be a service at noon at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel in Roanoke, Va., with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Her burial will follow, where she will be laid to rest beside her mother in Roanoke, Va., safe in her arms, now and forever. The family suggests remembrances to the House of Hope, P.O. Box 40464, Bellevue, WA 98105-4464. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oakeys.com. https://roanoke.com/obituaries/boardwine-dianna/article_86b98463-33c1-514e-b285-0ac84f25aae8.html
