Anthony Paul Stamus, (Tony), 40, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 1996. He was a 1973 graduate of Northside High School, and attended Virginia Western Community College. Tony worked at The Roanoke Times for 22 years and the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle for 2 years before moving to Atlanta last August to work for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where he served for many years on the Board of Trustees, as a member of the choir, and as a Chanter. He was also a member of the Order of the A.H.E.P.A. Surviving are his mom and dad, Victoria and Peter Stamus, Roanoke; brother, Mike Stamus, Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Maria and Steve Peters, Salem; grandmother, Maria Manolas, Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Blvd., N.E., Roanoke, Va. 24012. A Trisagion Service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Nicholas Bacalis. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
