Odie Halmer Bales Jr., 59, of Roanoke, died on Monday, May 23, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Odie Halmer Bales Sr. and sister, Ivy Jeanette Bales. He was a graduate of Northside High School, Class of 1970. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Air Force and later the United States Coast Guard. Surviving are his mother, Ivy June Bales; sister, Odilee Goad; uncle, Doug Harris and wife, Becky, of Cleveland, Tenn.; aunts, Annie Lowrie Henry and husband, Foy, of Barstow, Calif. and Doretha Fay Phillips and husband, Kenneth, of Corinth, Miss.; and numerous cousins. Services will be held at McCarthy-Evergreen Chapel, Knoxville, TN on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Beech Springs Cemetery, in Kodak, TN. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North chapel on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m.
