Steve Harlow - Class Of 1974

Stephen Jay Harlow, 59 of Roanoke, died Monday, March 16, 2015. Steve's life is distinguished by his love for family, life-long friendships, his love of the outdoors and his creativity and sense of humor. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Steve attended Northside High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative design from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1979. After receiving his degree, he pursued further art study in Europe. Steve's long career as art director at The Roanoke Times enabled him to contribute to many design projects for local community organizations including the Roanoke Symphony, Junior League of Roanoke Valley and United Way. His talent and creativity was a rich resource for his family and friends. Of all the awards he received for his talents, Steve was especially proud of his Eagle Scout Award as seen by the eagle pin he always wore on his lapel. Steve was a respected authority on military memorabilia and a variety of antique collections. His personal collections were that of museum quality. He had a camaraderie with the Roanoke Valley antique collector community and took great pride in always negotiating the best deal; however, he was known for his honesty.
