David "Pappy" L. Edwards Jr., 70, of Roanoke, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19th, 2023. He was born on August 6th, 1952 to Dave, Sr. and Sue Edwards. David is preceded in death by his mother, Sue Edwards and his father-in-law, Lonnie and mother-in-law Linda Crane.

David carried many titles, Pappy was likely his favorite but others include: Son, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Friend, Husband, Coworker and Tree Steward. Pappy had an immense love and appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Following his retirement, he spent countless hours volunteering for the Roanoke Tree Stewards to beautify and enhance the landscape of the City of Roanoke; he was very proud of his service. He also enjoyed traveling to see family and friends, whether it was to camp at a music festival on the Shenandoah or taking long road trips with family and friends. Music was also a part of Pappy's DNA, from modern music to the earliest of classic rock. Music was a foundation in his life. He loved going to concerts with friends and family. 

David graduated from Northside High School and National Business College.  He was a sports enthusiast.  He played many sports in his youth including Northside Basketball.  He was a life-long Hokies fan that followed all of the men’s and women’s teams. David had many careers throughout his life (including being a taxi driver) before settling into a career in Information Technology in the banking industry. 

David leaves behind an extensive loving family, wife; Robin Edwards; his father, Dave Edwards, Sr.; four children, Melissa (Chris) Yopp, Brian (Ashley) Edwards, Justin (Emily) Edwards, Mark (Rachel) Hunley; a brother, Danny Edwards; a sister, Mary Edwards; 7 grandchildren, Jocelyn and Tyler Lowery, Ashleigh (Charlie) Fields, Isabella and Greyson Edwards, Everett Edwards, Ella Hunley, and one great-grandson Julien Dawson.

The Edwards family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 24th, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 318 Church Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at 10:00am at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Rev. Jim Rivers officiating.
