Joel Bek, North Carolina

Joel Robert Bek, 45, of Seaboard, N. C., died Oct. 1, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, N. C. with the Rev. Stephen Trussell officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral on Friday at the home of Joel and Ruth Bek in Seaboard.

Joel Bek was born in Jones county, Iowa. He moved to Roanoke, Va., where he graduated from Northside High School. In 1978, he graduated from Virginia Tech. with a degree in agricultural engineering. Following graduation, Joel worked for Vepco Power Company now known as Dominion Power in Virginia Beach, Va. In 1987 he was transferred to Ahoskie, where he continued to work with the company as a customer project coordinator. He was married to Ruth Moss in 1987. They have resided in Seaboard since 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Seaboard; two daughters, Marion Payne and Ruthann Payne, both of Seaboard; one son, Michael Payne of Greenville, N. C.; his mother, Joan M. Bek of Greensboro, N. C.; his father Ted Bek and his wife, Sunni of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; a brother, Jeff Bek of Virginia Beach, Va.; both grandmothers, Mildred Bek of Winterset and Laura Morgan of Hopkinton; and one grandson.
