HOLLADAY, Elizabeth Ann Holmes, 42, left this life on Monday, June 3, 2002, after a stubborn and courageous battle with leukemia. She was a Registered Nurse who gave of herself in her profession. We remember Liz as a supreme travel and activity organizer, and mischievous prankster who loved a good surprise. A joyful skier, determined bicyclist, enduring runner, capable and dependable backpacker and camper who was always comfortably at home in the Yellowstone backcountry. During her years at Old Faithful, Wyoming, she was the center of many lifelong friendships. She was a charter member of the sisterhood of the hen, whose bonds were strengthened through hen sister, Sarah Dan and #8217's incredible outpouring of love and support. A just, righteous, and caring woman, Liz always gave more of herself than she ever expected in return. She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend whose spirit and love will live in all those who were privileged to know her. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandparents, Emma and Carl Whittier and grandparents, Marian and Cecil Holmes; mother, Constance Whittier Holmes; and George, the Flugle Hound. She is survived by her loving husband, David; daughter, Hannah; son, Will; father and stepmother, David Holmes and Dolly Doughty; sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and Joe Alexander; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Deyerle; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Kevin Holt; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Phebe and Pete Holladay; brother-in-law and fiance, Jim Holladay and Ellen Antoinacci; sister-in-law and husband, Katherine and John Zampolin; numerous aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended Yellowstone family. Special thanks to her family of caregivers at MD Anderson Cancer Center, whose support is beyond description. A memorial service will be held at the Beale Memorial Garden, Hollins University on Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of Elizabeth and #8217's life at the Holladay home in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, or The Georgia Mountains Unitarian Church, Dahlonega, Ga. 30533
