Charles Stebbins - Class Of 1979 VIEW PROFILE

Charles Harvey Stebbins, Jr., died Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at his Roanoke home. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born March 7, 1961 in Roanoke, he grew up in the Hollins area, graduated from Northside High School/The Burton Center in 1979, and later attended Virginia Western Community College. His early religious education was at St. James Episcopal Church in Roanoke.
For almost 30 years Harvey was an active volunteer firefighter at Roanoke County Hollins #5 station, where he was honored as Fireman of the Year and held Life Membership. His vocational career was in auto repair and he later helped install the HVAC systems at several large Western Virginia buildings.
He was predeceased by his father, Charles H. Stebbins, Sr. Surviving are his mother, Frances S. Stebbins, Salem; his sister, Julie S. Bordelon (Gary), Jacksonville, FL; his brother, Frank S. Stebbins, Cloverdale; and a niece, Kellie B. Lester (Matthew), Dallas, GA.
A committal of ashes will be Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at the columbarium of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, with a gathering for friends following at the church from 1 until 3 p.m.
Rather than flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations to Roanoke County Hollins #5 Fire Department, 7401 Barrens Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
