
Obituary for David Alan Carl
David A. Carl, 62, of Salem, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. A born salesman, he owned several businesses in Salem over the years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was well known for his work in taxidermy. His many loyal customers returned to him year after year. He was President of the Grace Furnace Hunt Club and spent most of his spare time on the property that he loved. Family was very important to David, especially his girls and two grandsons.
Family left to cherish his memory include his parents, Donald and Pauline Carl; wife of 42 years, Nita Carl; daughters, Melinda Carl Hathaway and husband Ben, Melissa Ann Carl, and Stephanie Lea Carl and fiancé Cory Neighbors; siblings, Douglas Carl and wife Jeanie, Rodney Carl and wife Sherry, and Cindy Carl; grandchildren, Benjamin and Zachary Hathaway; father-in-law, Billy Caves; and his four-legged baby girl, Marlie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A memorial service to honor David’s life will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel with Lenny MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Flowers are appreciated, but donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
