William H. (Bill) Yates, 89, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday morning, November 6, 2015. He was born and raised in Sperryville, Va. He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Kathleen Yates; and his best friend and wife of 58 years, Sue B. Yates.He is survived by his children, Bill Yates (Kathy), Kathy Malloy (Alan), and Calvin Yates; grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel and Andrew Malloy, Rhea Ridgeway (Michael), Monica, Cynthia and Ambrose Yates.He served in the United States Army and taught at Northside High School from its opening until retirement in 1989. He was very active in local, state and national education associations. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Troutville Baptist Church.We are extremely thankful to the staff of Helpful Hands, especially Jessica, Debra, Pat and Barbara, who cared for Dad during his long illness.There will be a viewing on Monday, November 9, 2015, at Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Memorial Service on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Carol H.
