Sue B. Yates, 80, of Roanoke, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. She was a member of Troutville Baptist Church after having grown up as a neighbor and member of Enon Baptist Church in Hollins, Va. She taught at Northside High School from its opening until she retired in 1989. She was very active in educational associations. She was the daughter of the late Hill and Emily Bower of Hollins, Va. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William H. (Bill) Yates Sr.; her children, William H. (Bill) Yates Jr. (Kathy), Kathleen (Kathy) Malloy (Alan), and Calvin W. Yates (Sara); and grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, and Andrew Malloy, Aurelia Ridgeway (Michael), Monica, Cynthia, and Ambrose Yates. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Bower (Lettie). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Troutville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 309, Troutville, VA 24175. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011, at Oakey's North Chapel where a memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Carol Johnston officiating.
