Dorothy Casini Nichols, of Roanoke, VA, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Born May 7, 1935 in Fort Edward, NY, she was the daughter of the late Vittorio and Mary Aurelia Casini. (Born in Fabrizia and Bellona, Italy) She was a long time member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and also an active at St. James Episcopal Church. She was a long time employee of Roanoke County Schools, with the majority of her years spent at Northside High School. In retirement, she enjoyed many years as a snowbird in Leesburg, FL. Dorothy is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Nichols, as well as two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Mary Smith (Richard) and Jennie Fobare (Emery); one nephew, Gary Fobare; brother-in-law and wives, Robert Nichols (Joan), Donald Nichols, Stanley Nichols (Arline). 

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roger Nichols of Roanoke; two sons, Dan Nichols (Robin) and Scott Nichols (Mitzi). She is also survived by grandchildren Brooke McKinley, Hunter Nichols (Jessica), Jamie Nichols, Morgan Bronner (Phil); great grandchildren Lucy, Charlotte, Lennon and Marley. Additionally, she is survived by one sister, Josephine Barlow and sister-in-law Bea Nichols, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Oakey’s North Chapel. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Oakey’s North Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.oakeys.com.
