David Vail VIEW PROFILE

TROUTVILLE – David C. Vail, 62, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at home after a courageous, seven-year battle with cancer. 
Mr. Vail was a retired band director in the school systems of Smyth County, Roanoke City and Roanoke County and was a highly respected musician, teacher, mentor, antique dealer and friend to many.
He was a member and deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Scott Vail Sr., and his brother, Scott Vail Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda Cole Vail, Troutville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Angelia Blackburn Vail, Detroit; son, Chris Vail, Erica Ratliff and Dustin West, Eagle Rock; beloved grandchildren, Maisy and Krystah Vail, Eugene, Ore., and Zachery Vowell and Joshua Vail, Detroit; mother and father-in-law, Neva and Nelson Cole, Shady Spring, W.Va.; nieces, Maureen Vail, Susan and Mutt Staton and Dillon Vail, Amherst; brother-in-law, Larry Cole, his wife, Sheryl, and their daughters, Jennifer Cole and Melissa, and David and Sophie Lehner, South Lyon, Mich.; special cousin, Peggy and Dick Wagner, Newport News; and a myriad of other family and friends. 
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the David C. Vail Scholarship Fund, 3756 Country Club Road, Troutville, VA 24175.
Mr. Vail's family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4930 Country Club Road, Troutville, and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Hutchins officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery, Troutville.
Arrangements are by Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237.
