URQUHART, Walter David November 9, 2017 Walter David Urquhart, 85, died Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leftwich and Millicent Oliver Urquhart. He is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Janet Dygert Urquhart and two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. and Terri B. Urquhart, Matthew S. and Tina B. Urquhart all of Roanoke. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Christine U. Hubbard and husband, Charlie, Robert B. Urquhart and wife, Nicole, and Connor B. Urquhart and one great, grandchild, Melanie P. Urquhart all of the Roanoke area. Additionally, he is survived by one sister, Sara U. and Robert A. Hudgins of Forest, Va. and Lakeland, Fla. Mr. Urquhart holds degrees from The University of Virginia in 1955 and in 1961.He was commissioned in 1955 and served on active duty in the United States Army. Mr. Urquhart's work experience, was all in the field of education. He taught and coached in Roanoke City and held school principalships in Campbell and Roanoke Counties. The memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church at 4910 Hubert Road NW, Roanoke. The family will receive friends from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Thomas prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery immediately following the service followed by a reception at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church or a favorite charity.
