Carlton Henry Mabe, 59, of Vinton, went to be with his Lord Thursday morning, June 25, 2015. He was born August 31, 1955, in Roanoke, and was preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Pearl Mabe. He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife of 39 years, Melody DeHaven Mabe; his son, Carlton H. Mabe II; and his daughter, Samantha Anne Mabe. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Sutphin, Ann Newman, Becky Mabe; his brother, Mike Mabe; and his mother-in-law, Irene Cook; as well as a fantastic bunch of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends.He was a Disciple of Vinton Baptist Church and longtime employee of Virginia Western Community College, where the motorcycle safety program was his passion. Carlton was a friend to all and a stranger to none. He volunteered for many years in the school systems and with the PTA, believing that educating our youth is a mission of which we all need to take part.Carlton loved camping and motorcycling. If he wasn't in the woods, he'd be touring the back roads on his V-Star. Even when his cancer started to take its toll on him, he still rode in Toys for Tots and other charity rides.As per Carlton's wishes there will be a memorial service held at Vinton Baptist Church 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, with Dr. Chris Monroe and Dr. Bill Booth officiating.In lieu of flowers, Carlton requested that donations be made to a Cancer Research Organization, Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation, or to Vinton Baptist Church. https://roanoke.com/obituaries/mabe-carlton-henry/article_4ac455e9-3094-582a-8f1f-a6708477dcbc.html
