Mark Joseph “Joe” Wright, age 64, of Roanoke County, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024. He was born in Roanoke on April 8, 1960. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Wright, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Ann “Sissy” Wright; his wife, Mary Wright; son, Nathan J. Wright; brothers, Dennis and wife Debbie, Jeff and wife Tracy, and Robby Wright; sister, Debby Slaydon; his precious granddaughter, Georgia Rose Cyrus, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, David and Neal Hart; and his uncle, Wayne Francisco, who were his brothers for many years.
He leaves behind his two fur-babies, Brutus and Madi, who were his best friends, which he spoiled terribly. They will miss their daddy and their four-course meals.
Joe retired from VDOT and was a tinkerer of sorts. He had an uncanny ability to repair motors, mowers, and chainsaws. If something needed repaired, welded, or fabricated he was your man. He was also a very talented stone mason, and his work will be admired for years.
The family would like to thank Jeff and Shirley Wold, Kelly Francisco, and Patsy Fout for their support throughout this difficult time. We would also like to thank Nicole at Good Samaritan Hospice for her compassionate care of Joe during his final days.
The family will receive friends for a period of visitation on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Good Samaritan Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
