I married Jerry Zubay JM class of 74 (but he actually went to Lourdes 9th-11th) in 1982. Jerry and his partner Mike have several restaurants in downtown Rochester which began with The Bank Restaurant in 1978. I was a waitress, he was a cook (I had no idea he owned the place he certainly didn't look the part or have the checkbook to go with!) Anyway, he wasn't supposed to fool around with the help, but did. Since then I have done many things in the restaurant business but menu research and development was the latest. Retired from that and opened my own cheese and specialty shop 1 year ago. I am expanding in Sept. check me out then ZZest Culinary Market and Wine Cafe!
The funniest thing I recall, was the big school walk out. I am thinking it may have been our sophomore year. But at 11:00am we were all to walk out and I guess it was all because were upset because we should have had the day off because the football team won State Championship? Whatever, I just wanted to get out of Anthropology Class. It seemed like the entire school took part in the walk out and a good part of them showed up at Quarry Hill Park for a kegger lunch! Yikes, thank goodness my kids wouldn't do that!
I would have gotten more involved with some clubs and such. I also really enjoyed Home Ec or at least the cooking side and I could have done something more with that. However, I turned out pretty good just the same, with out all those extras. So, hanging out in the parking lot instead must have been a good choice too!
I worked at Madonna Towers my sophomore and Junior year. I actually loved that job. Part of it involved being in the kitchen and at the time it was a fair amount of responsibility I thrived on that. My senior year I worked at The Ground Round which was amazing because the tips were awesome and it really put me in the thick of the restaurant business which ended up to be my life.
I had a 1970 yellow AMC Hornet, three speed and just waaay tooooo cool.
Not a one.
I am not sure, I'd like to think
fun
probably
over dramatic
and bossy
funny, friendly, bossy
I thought I would do something with animals at first but by senior year I knew wanted to be a chef or be in hotel motel management.
It pretty much worked out that way. Although more by luck in the beginning that hard work. After I grew up a bit, it was hard work, but it's my passion.
That the big deals then, are not big at all.
Prague Czech Republic and that was just last October to visit my daughter who was studying there.
My Grandmother. She was a nurse and worked hard but she always made time to put a nice meal together and she did it with a bit of pizazz. She was pulled together and looked nice no matter what. My mother in law is influential as well. She is quiet and never complains and very generous, not the traits I automatically possess. However, I have slowly picked those up and am grateful for that.
My husband always! Alfred Hitchcock, Johnny Depp, Julia Child, Anthony Bourdain, Lucille Ball, Larry McMurtry, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, and Elvis
I'll get back to this
I want to spend some time in small town somewhere in Italy or Spain, somewhere I can shop in a Farmers Market setting, cook and eat, drink wine without having a care and not gaining an ounce or I guess not caring if I do.
I feel like I can say what I really want to say without holding back. Finally at age 51 I have enough experience and maturity, I can usually pull it off without putting my foot in my mouth. Well usually...
