Roger was a personal friend, bass player in " The Wereabouts " and just a great guy. I kept his musical equiptment in storage for him at my parents house. Sad to hear of his passing. RIP my friend
So sad to hear of Roger’s passing. I considered him my best friend throughout high school. We often raced slot cars and flew our gas model airplanes together. I remember him pulling a prank with a palm shock buzzer at RHS graduation at Meadowbrook when he shook faculty members’ hands after recieving his diploma on stage. After graduation, he worked a summer job as a milkman & I occasionally “helped” him, riding around with him while standing up in his milk truck. During my 1st year at Michigan Tech, I mentioned to him in a letter how I wished I had brought my stereo. It had a a 100 watt Heathkit stereo amp I built, a Dual turntable, a Teak reel-to-real tape recorder, and a pair of 12” speakers in enclosures I built by cutting up a ping pong table and clad in red metal flake vinyl I got from the Whoopi’s Bowl. A few days later, Roger showed up at my dorm room. He had packed all that stuff in his Dad’s Volkswagen Beetle and drove over 450 up to Houghton all by himself just to bring it to me!! I had never suspected he’d do something like that! He had to rush back home the next day so his Dad wouldn’t find out he borrowed that car. However, he got sleepy on the way back, rear-ended somebody, and got in some real trouble. I really felt bad, but I’ll never forget that. We list touch when he moved back to Tennessee with his Dad & sisters.
Roger was my constant cohort in various bands culminating with the Whereabouts. He was the only bass player in my young musical life. His sense of humor & creativity were fantastic. It is no wonder he made a living as a humorous radio disc jockey in Kentucky. We will miss him at the musical part of the reunion and we won’t be able to perform the Who’s My Generation without remembering his always flawless bass solo.
