Remember Christmas when you still beieved there was a Santa Claus? Funny that I cannot recall exactly the moment when I learned there was no Santa and don't remember being shocked or traumatized by the realization. We lived in Red River when I was a child and I still believed then. Later we transitioned to a rental home in Pecan Grove as Daddy was having our house built on Mt. Gallant. I lived there till I left home, and that matchbox house is still there. Guess the Santa fantasy dissapated somewhere between our move from Pecan Grove to Mt. Gallant (9 years old about).

How about you? When did you learn there was no Santa?

Kay,

Cute, Kay. Guess your Santa is AKA, Lake, right?

How did you tell your daughter there is no Santa or did she learn it from someone else?

Becky

I don' t remember.  Probably her mean old daddy told her.  I think she still believes. Interesting, my sister in law lives in New York City a block from the house where  Little Virginia wrote the letter to the newspaper asking if there was a Santa Claus. There is a plaque on the door acknowledging her.  You can see the plaque on the wall.

I can't remember my age, but my cousins and I were walking to my house from our local candy store on Cherry Road.  Sandy told me that my parents were Santa.  I got so angry and told her she was lying.  Really have no clue when I realized she was right.

My oldest granddauaghter is now 17 but when she was about 10 she asked me to take her out for ice cream.  There's a nice little shop on Main Street in Windermere, FL.  I figured she was wanting to ask me something that she didn't want to say in front of her family.  While sitting at the table eating our ice cream, she asked me if her parents were Santa.  Keep in mind she had 2 much younger siblings who still were believers.  I wouldn't answer her question for a long time but finally asked if she was absolutely sure she wanted to know because Christmas would be different from then on.  She said yes so I told her the truth.  I don't think she really thought Santa was for real, but she did want confirmation.  To this day, her Mom (my daughter) doesn't know I was the one who told her.

Great story,Lyn! I think it is always good to be honest with children when they ask a direct question. I say this from experience as my parents failed the test when I asked them one day what a particular word meant that was written on the bathroom stall at school. I was in fourth grade then and they referred to our set of Funk and Wagnall's Encyclopedia.

All you fellas out there - have you got any photos of you on Christmas as a child or maybe with Santa?  Would love to post them.  I know that is ancient history, but somebody must have some.  Hilda seems to be the only one out of all of us.  How about you, Dennis, our New Year's baby, check the archives.

This is the only Christmas picture I have (one other like it) as a child.  My sister on the right, cousin Rick on the left, Li'l Kay center.  Haven't Christmas trees changed over the years? The matching robes were Christmas presents, as well as the big baby dolls. Looks like Rick got a set of Spike Jones drums.

This is just a notice to anyone that may be considering a 'future planning' for the end.

My Dad passed away almost 2 years ago and to say I was not prepared is an understatement. We had discussed what everyone (Mom & Dad) wanted when the dreaded day came that they would no longer be with us.  I contacted Greene Funeral home and told them my Dad's wishes(a basic cremation service) and paid for that service ($2300), which caused a small financial problem, as we were not expecting it.

About 6 months later, I told my Mom we needed to be more prepared and needed to look around. After contacting Wolfe's in Ft. Mill, I was shocked at their price of $1100 for the same service my Dad had received. This was inclusive and included transportation R/T to their crematorium in Lancaster. They offered a intrest free 1 yr plan of $100 down and $900 to be paid within the following 12 months or when the service would be needed. Needless to say I entered into the contract and my Mom's arrangements are paid for now......no matter how long she lives.

I am posting this as a service to my classmates with no malace towards Greene's or any other funeral home. If this helps one classmate be better prepared for the future, that we all know is comming at some point in time, I will rest easier. I hope I don't offend anyone,  Jimmy

A side note I forgot to mention......... I have since purchased the same plan for me & Jane. Hopefully when my end comes in 30 or so years, I will have saved some big bucks for a family member.

You are absolutely right Jimmy. As a pastor I have to bite my tongue a lot when helping folks plan for that day. Few people shop around. They choose the funeral home the family used last. I've seen cremations cost $4000 and change.

My wife and I are organ and tissue donors and our remains will go to MUSC. COST TO MY CHIDREN ,,,, ZERO. And hopefully we will be helping someone when we're gone.

That is a great idea David, my wife and I are organ donors, or so I thought. We both answered yes to the organ donor question at the DMV. I have since found out that is only in case of an accident so quick action can be taken. Anyone that is interested in being a donor needs to check into programs such as the one David is enrolled in.

Great news!   Our French teacher, Margaret Russell Jennings has joined class of 65 web site.  Any of you who might be members over there might send her a message and encourage her to join our web site as well.  She seemed real excited to have connected with several students from that class.  Please make her feel welcome!  She lives in Garden City now.

I don't remember her.  I thought Ms. Connor was our French teacher, or maybe it was O'Connor?

Janice, maybe you're thinking about Mrs Connelly. I think I had Miss Russell. Her first year at RHHS was 1965. I'll post a picture of her.

Yes!  That's her.  I never had Ms. Russell.  I Can see Mrs. Connelly in my mind--young, dark hair, great smile.  I believe Mrs. Connor was a teacher we had at Oakdale--   Thanks for clarifying.

I had Miss Russell for something of which I do not remember, but I remember her.

Senility must be kicking in.

Margaret Russell was my 2nd year French Teacher during my Junior year.  She was a new teacher at RHHS at the time.  At least one time maybe 30 years ago, I saw her again.  She was dating a co-worker at Bowater.
