Memories
From Jake Smith:
I was sorry to hear about the loss of Jimmy. He was a good friend ,great pilot and patriot.I have to share this funny and embarassing event that happened years ago, I was picking up customers in Peoria of which my company had used Jimmy on many occasions. We landed and it did not seem to be the Peoria that I had seen many times before.Jimmy looked at me and with a grinn and said this Peoria ILL,.Well someone had really messed up, I needed to go to Peroria IND ,We refuelded and headed to Peoria?? My secretary had made a big mistake, Ha! no it was me.
From Bob Finley:
Likewise,I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jimmy Mintz.A very likeable classmate who was a true Bearcat. My prayers go up for his entire family.
From David Sealy:
Jimmy Mintz was a joy to be around. I think all total we had about 5 classes together. He will be missed by those that knew him. A great guy.
From Cotton Howell:
In the late 70's Jimmy was in a crash that left him in a cast. We were flying a patient to New Jersey and lost an engine somewhere over Virginia. (Classic TV situation with oil flowing from the engine and chance of fire) Concerned the FAA would ground him for flying with the cast he would not declare an emergency. We flew in the pattern to land at Norfolk, which is a very busy aviation area.
He was one of the few natural pilots I had the pleasure of flying with. He had a great understanding of aerodynamics. It was like he could "feel the aircraft " and became part of it. He was an amazing pilot and friend.
From Paul Sprouse:
Sorry to learn of Jimmy's passing!! Lost touch with him years ago but remember him fondly! We both served in Infantry Units in Vietnam around the same time! Upon returning home we shared a place on Lake Wiley while I was taking flying lessons and waiting to return to USC! He was Very intellectual and a very good pilot!
