The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Jan Andre Dratwinski, affectionately known to all as JD, passed away on June 18, 2024, in Boone, NC, at the age of 72. He was born in Greensboro, NC on March 10, 1952.
JD attended St. Ann’s Catholic School in Charlotte, NC until he transferred to Rock Hill High School, where he graduated in 1971. He went on to the Citadel Military College, in Charleston and then York Technical College, in Rock Hill. He worked at Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company (The Bleachery), and later at A.T.I. Telephone Company.
JD is survived by his sisters, Maria "Mia" Dratwinski-Harding and Lydia Scribner Smith, his brothers, Andre Edgar "Andre" Dratwinski and David Spencer. JD was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Brandt Engstrum Dratwinski Scribner, his father Andre Miroslaw Dratwinski (originally from Poland), and his stepfather Dan Scribner.
JD, a kind and generous person, was a smart and fun-loving Individual who enjoyed learning. In high school, he tutored friends to help them pass their classes.
JD had a passion for rock-n-roll music. You could hear him through the whole neighborhood playing along with Iron Butterfly “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” on his drum set. He had multiple stereo systems and an extensive album collection.
JD would refer to The Barn as “home away from home”. He enjoyed spending nights at Daddy ‘s Money and on weekends, if there wasn’t a party, he would put one together.
We will celebrate JD’s life at Rock City Tavern, 1807 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, on July 19, 2024, from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. You are invited to join JD’s family and friends for a beer, as we honor our special friend with storytelling and fond memories.
