Michaelann "Mike" Gill
May 9, 1953 - August 16, 2017
Michaelann “Mike” Gill, 64, of Rock Hill, passed away on August 16, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Rock Hill and was the daughter of George A. Gill, Jr. and Maxine Kitchen Gill, who predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, George Alexander “Tad” Gill, III, her sister Henrietta Gill Lyvers (Mark), and her nephew, Alexander Gill Lyvers (Andrianna). She is also survived by her paternal aunt, Henrietta Gill Cox, and her maternal aunt, June Roberts, her friend and “counselor,” Bev Carroll, and a slew of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Visitation will follow the service.
She graduated from Winthrop College in 1974 and retired in 2010 after a long career with Northwest Airlines. She then managed two professional offices in her “second” career. She was a terrific golfer who won many club champions when she lived in Memphis and was the Women’s Club Champion at Rock Hill Country Club nine times, eight of them after she turned 50. She won her first championship at 23 and the last one at 63. Although an excellent golfer, her golf legacy was the fact that she was always welcoming and encouraging to any level of golfer. You did not have to be a good golfer to play with Mike; she just relished the fact that the person was playing the game she adored. She also loved playing the guitar, organizing sing a-longs with her friends and neighbors, playing bridge, shagging, the beach, the Golf Girls, and listening to music every minute she could. She served on the Board of York County Natural Gas Authority and on several golf committees at Rock Hill Country Club.
Mike was generous, kind, thoughtful, and loving. She always had positive and encouraging words for everyone she came into contact with and was patient to a fault, except for those rare moments when she was riled and went into “Maxine” mode.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Dr. Pam Sinclair, Ann Royal, and the staffs at Levine Cancer Center – Rock Hill, Piedmont Medical Center, and HealthSouth.
Memorials may be made in Mike’s name to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or the local charity of your choice.

Fond memories of Mike. She was a great girl and will be missed. Knowing her, she fought cancer tooth and nail, to the end. Thanks for sharing. Prayers and condolences to the family.
