![]() She is survived by three children, Lisa Oates Todd of Fayetteville, Tenn., Jackie Oates Thompson of Greenville, and Dr. Thomas M. Oates Jr. of Danville, Va. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Robert Thompson, Caroline Lowder, Rachel Hudson, Samuel Todd, John Thomas Oates, Jacob Thompson, Anna Oates, William Oates, and Elisabeth Oates; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Aultman; and a brother, Dr. Reynolds Young. Mrs. Oates graduated from Erskine College, and worked briefly for TVA before her marriage. She taught mathematics in York and Rock Hill, S.C., for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1989. She was a woman of many talents. She was especially generous with her talent as a vocalist, both in the communities where she lived and in her church choirs. She loved her family and her church, and served on many committees of her local church, First ARP Church of Rock Hill, and of the Synod and Synodical of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian denomination, including a term as President of the Woman's Synodical Union, and many years as Treasurer of the WSU. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, in the Due West Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow in the Due West ARP Church at 11 a.m. Memorials may be sent to World Witness at the ARP Center in Greenville, S.C., for missionary support; or to the Mission Fund of the First ARP Church of Rock Hill, S.C.
