Betty Jane Everett Moore

Betty Jane Moore (World History Teacher)

ROCK HILL, SC-- Mrs. Betty Jane Everett Moore of Westminster Towers, died Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House following a brief illness.

Betty Jane was born November 13, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC. She was the daughter of Laura Mason and Arthur Burton Everett. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Herbert Bays Moore.

Betty Jane grew up in Columbia, SC and was in the first graduating class of Dreher High School. She attended Converse College and graduated from the University of South Carolina were she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. While she was at "The University" (as she always called it), she met her future husband. Bays was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and they were married December 21, 1944. While Bays served his country in WWII, as part of the US Army in Europe, Herbert Bays Moore, Jr. (Bert) was born. After returning from "The War", Betty Jane and Bays settled in Rock Hill, SC and later welcomed daughters Barbara and Laura.

Betty Jane loved her God, her family and her church. She and Bays were charter members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was involved in many church activities including; Circle leader, Bible teacher, Women of the Church, the Berean Sunday School Class, Mission Ministries, Pioneer Girls and evangelical ministries. She also taught world history for 16 years at Rock Hill High School. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. She was active in the Junior Welfare League, Rock Hill Debutante Club, Garden and Book Clubs and the Dames of Magna Carter. She enjoyed dancing, music, gardening and travel.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Herbert Bays Moore, Jr. (Lynda) of Spartanburg, SC, Barbara Moore Tremblay (Tim) of Clemmons, NC, and Laura Moore Ballenger (Mike) of Florence, SC. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are: Sally Moore Martin (John), Kelly Tremblay Crider (John David), Jill Tremblay Dell (Trevor), Megan Tremblay Wollaston (Scott), Everett Guy Ballenger (Tara) and Mason Ballenger Chase (John). Great-grandchildren are: Mac, Jeb and Lucy Martin, Carson and Macy Crider, Hayden and Taylor Bell, Gus Wollaston, Libby and Sam Ballenger and Natalie Chase.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, October 29, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC with Dr. Shelton P. Sanford, III officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor. A private interment service will be held at Laurelwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Westminster Health and Rehab, the staff of Hospice and Community Care and a very special care giver, Chakia Dixon.
