Monticello Tisdale Sr., of 523 Washington Street, Rock Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at his home.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church with the Rev. Charles W. Lewis officiating and the Rev. Dr. Z.B. Wells and the Rev. Sylvilla Massey-Feaster assisting. Burial will be in Grand View Memorial Park.

The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Mr. Tisdale was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Johnson Tisdale and Mamie Evans Tisdale. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of New. Mount Olivet AME Church where he served as treasurer and a member of the trustee board and the MEW's Club. He was honored for his services to the church on March 13, 1994. He graduated from Tomlinson High School in Kingstree and completed his undergraduate studies in education at Claflin College and his master's degree in science at South Carolina State College. He taught at Jefferson High School in York and also served as head football coach for several years before moving to Rock Hill with his family to teach biology, and became head football and basketball coach at Emmett Scott High School. He remained at Emmett School High School until he was assigned to teach Drivers Education at Northwestern High School until he retired.

Mr. Tisdale was always active in the following organizations, Omega Psi Phi. Lit Phy. Civic and Social Club, NAACP, Washington-Miller Street Community Club, and he was a Parks and Recreation Director for the city of Rock Hill and other various educational and community programs.

He was the widower of Helen J. Tisdale.

Survivors include two sons, Monticello Tisdale Jr. of Rock Hill and Thalmico Tisdale of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Pamela T. Anderson of Washington, Ga.; one brother, Jasper Tisdale of Stoughton, Mass.; two sisters, Geraldine Heyward of Randolph, Mass. and Erma Jones of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home.
