ROCK HILL - Mrs. Evelyn Powell Oates. 60, wife of William E. Oates, died Wednesday. Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late Clovis and Grace Davis Powell. She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the South Carolina Postcard Club. At the time of death, Mrs. Oates was a chemistry teacher at Rock Hill High School and head of the science department at Rock Hill High School (since 1960). She was a former research chemist of the Celanese Corp. for 10 years. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Joy Long of Montreal, Canada; a brother, Richard Powell of Rock . Hill.  Services Will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church (York, SC) with burial at the church cemetery.
