
James Chick
CHARLOTTE, NC-- James Plummer Chick, Jr. of Charlotte, NC passed away Friday, June 9th, 2017 at Mercy Hospital. Born on May 31st, 1947 in Rock Hill, SC, Jim was the son of the late James Plummer Chick, Sr. and the late Annie Gault Chick.
Jim earned his B.S. in Industrial Management and M.S. in Management from Clemson University. He began his career in banking with First Union National Bank of North Carolina in Charlotte, NC. Later he became President, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Selective Insurance Company of the Southeast and Selective Insurance Company of South Carolina from 1988 to 1993. Overall, Jim worked for property and casualty insurance companies for 39 years, until retiring in 2014.His civic work includes trustee of Boys Town of North Carolina and president of the Kiwanis Club of Mecklenburg.
Jim loved his children very much. He enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren, Alejandro and Gregory at their soccer games and performances. Further, he was an avid Clemson fan and was elated when they won their 2nd national football title in 2017.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Wingo Chick; son Matthew Chick; daughter Melissa Chick; son-in-law Alejandro Moreno; and two grandchildren, Alejandro and Gregory.
Graveside burial will take place at 11 am at Nazareth Presbyterian Church in Moore, SC, on Friday, June 16, 2017. Visitors will be received after the service at the home of Sara and Gary Cannon, 119 Wheeler St., Duncan, SC.
