Nancy Hoke Bratton FLORENCE - Nancy Hoke Bratton, 65, wife of Dr. James Rufus Bratton, Jr. died Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Born in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late Asbury Dukes Hoke and Faye Martin Hoke. Nancy attended the Winthrop Training School in Rock Hill. She graduated from Erskine College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French. Following graduation, she taught French at James Island High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Florence, where she had many dear and devoted friends. There, Nancy taught two-year old Sunday school for twenty-seven years. In the community, she was very active with the Friends of the Florence Museum, the Morning Glory Garden Club and the Research Club of Florence. Nancy served on the Board of Trustees for the Florence Museum for twenty-five years. In addition to her husband of forty-two years, she is survived by her son, James Rufus Bratton, III and his wife, Ashley Bratton, of Florence, her daughter, Martha Lilla Bratton, of Charleston and her grandson, Sims Rufus Bratton, of Florence. Nancy never met a stranger and had the unique ability to make each and every person feel special. She greeted everyone with her smile; her personality radiated warmth, genuine interest, concern and love for everyone she met. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, who cherished her dear friends and family with all her heart. She will be greatly missed and remembered forever. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Florence with The Reverend Dr. Barry Jenkins and The Reverend Chris Handley officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence. The family will receive friends at Waters-Powell Funeral Home from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Friday, June 22, 2012. Memorials may be made to the Florence Museum, 558 Spruce Street, Florence, SC 29501 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 700 Park Avenue, Florence, SC 29501.
