From Katherine Broendel, Mark's daughter:

Hello, I do not have an account, but my Dad, Mark Broendel, attended Rock Island High School. (https://www.classcreator.com/Rock-Island-Illinois-1971/class_profile.cfm?member_id=8526151) My family and I created this profile in memory of my Dad, and the profile includes some great family photos: https://app.turninghearts.com/dashboard/medallion-11051 We're encouraging anyone who knew my Dad to leave a tribute for others to see. We'd like to share this link (https://app.turninghearts.com/dashboard/medallion-11051) with his classmates and anyone else who might have known my Dad. Thank you, Katherine Broendel

Kim Cosentine

Hi my name is Kim Cosentine and have been Mark's friend for 50 yrs on the swim teem at the Y and use 2 go to the ball games at John o'Donnell stadium together for years. I have been to his folks house on 38th and he is missed. I live out of town so news takes a while to reach me but he was a good friend. You have a lot to be proud of and think of him often. My deepest sympathy,  Kim.

Mark and his family were a classic all American family.

I knew his dad (Al) well and helped him get his Ham Radio license. Then he helped me teach others to get thier licenses. Together we graduated and licensed over 100 new Ham Radio operators  for the Quad City Amatuer Radio Club at the RI Arsenal, and I could not have done it alone.

I remeber walking into the classroom of my second Ham Radio class (the one after Al's). The room was full, standing room only, and I started to talk about the class. Someone raised thier hand and asked if we shouldn't get the folks in the next room.

I went next door and there was another whole room full of people ! We all got into the one room and I wrapped things up pretty quick, letting them know how we would meet and what they needed for the next week.

Then I called Al in a panic and asked if he could teach the morse code portion while I taught radio law, theory, and technical stuff. He immediately said "sure will" ! We split the class and and rotated after an hour to handle all the folks. What a great guy, still blesses me to think of him ! Al had fun with it until he passed.

Mark was fun to be with and around and left us way too soon. He is not the only person I know who died the way he did. I lost a classmate from the Naval Academy the same way.

Be careful and watch for others out there !
