Maryhelen Leckie Goicoechea

July 4, 1946 - June 19, 2016

Maryhelen Leckie Goicoechea was born July 4, 1946 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Samuel Leckie and Margaret Chambers Leckie.  She attended schools in Rock Springs graduating in 1964.

Maryhelen went on to enroll in higher education at Colorado State in Ft. Collins and Western Wyoming and Casper Junior Colleges before transferring to Westminster College in Salt Lake City where she earned a BA in Business Adminstration.

She would go on to work in Post Offices in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming become Post Master in Challis, Idaho and Shell and Pinedale, Wyoming.

Maryhelen had a deep love and appreciation for animals, especially her dogs, horses, and sheep.

Her childhood memories were spent at her grandfather's homestead, the Leckie Ranch, at Big Sandy, Sublette County.

While helping on Jim Magagna's sheep ranch near her own family's place, she met Juan Batista Goicoechea, a basque sheepherder.

They were married on July 13, 1992, in Pinedale.  Many people in Sublette County remember Maryhelen as the Pinedale Postmaster and later for her work with the Sheriff's Department in animal control.

She is survived by her husband, Bautista Goicoechea, and her sister Maxine Leckie, both of Pinedale and several cousins.
