David C. Ekholm, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023.  Born April 9, 1945, in Belvidere, Illinois, the son of Holger and Frances (Sjolander) Ekholm.  Graduate of East High School, Class of 1963.  David was a member of First Free where he was involved in the youth group during his younger years and sang in the church choir.  He would attend church every Wednesday and Sunday.  Faith was very important to David.  David had a good sense of humor and was very close with his sister, Donna.

Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center was a big part of David’s life, as he worked in the laundry department for over 30 years.  David made Fairhaven his home in 2021.

Survived by his two nephews; and many friends in the church community.  Predeceased by his parents; and sister, Donna Smith of Iowa.  A special thanks to the staff at Swedish American Hospital.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford.  Memorials may be made to First Free Rockford or Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.
