After a courageous battle with cancer, Edward L. Price (Ed) passed away at the age of 75 on September 12, 2025, in Lafayette, Indiana.
Born on March 4, 1950, in Clinton, Indiana, Ed was the son of Elton and Jewel Price. He graduated from Rockville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education from Purdue University, where he was also a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) fraternity.
Ed began his career as a high school agricultural teacher at Thorntown and South Montgomery High Schools before transitioning into agricultural lending. He served with Farm Credit Services in Lafayette and Frankfort from 1975 to 1985, advancing to Vice President. In 1985, he joined (what came to be) Regions Bank in Lafayette, where he built a remarkable 40-year career as First Vice President and Relationship Manager.
Throughout his banking career, Ed was deeply committed to supporting the agricultural community in Tippecanoe County and beyond. He worked side by side with farmers and agribusiness owners helping them secure the resources needed to grow their operations, weather challenges, and build for the future. Ed took pride in being more than a banker. He was a trusted partner who understood the unique needs of rural families and agricultural enterprises. His efforts left a lasting impact on the region’s farming community, strengthening both local businesses and the community they supported.
Beyond his career, Ed dedicated himself to community service. He was Past President of the Greater Lafayette United Way Board of Directors, Past Chairperson of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Committee, and Past Chairperson of the Indiana Society of Agri-Bankers. He also served as President of the Tippecanoe School Corporation School Building Board, Co-Chair of the 2001 Farm Progress Show Committee, and was active in numerous organizations including the Tippecanoe County Pork Producers, Leadership Lafayette, Mulberry Masonic Lodge #618, Lafayette Fraternal Order of Eagles #347, and most recently a very active member of the Lafayette American Legion Post #11.
Ed wasn’t all work and no play. He spent many years supporting the Purdue Boilermakers with his “mom & pop” tailgate that was loved by all on Slater Hill.
On September 8, 1973, Ed married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Price. Together they raised three children, Eric (Abbey) Price of Singapore, Sarah (Brian) Gruber of Peoria, Illinois, and Michael Price (deceased). Ed was a devoted grandfather to Lydia and Max Gruber, cherishing every moment spent at their sporting events and activities.
He is also survived by his siblings Phyllis Tomaw, Melessia Eldridge, and his beloved lab Buffy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael, and siblings Elwin Price and Patricia Shew.
Ed also found joy in family vacations in Key West, listening to Jimmy Buffett, smoking meats while enjoying a rum and diet (or two), traveling to visit loved ones, and keeping a meticulous lawn. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was authentic, generous, courageous, and always fun.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jerry Jefson, Dr. Ajita Narayan, the entire staff at the Franciscan Cancer Center, Dr. Courtney Everhart, Dr Nancy DiMartino, Karen Hughes, and the entire Franciscan 3-South staff.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. A funeral mass will follow on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church. Friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Life at American Legion Post 11 at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 11 mortgage campaign.
