Well what can I say about Tasha? She was straight business/church like everyday. Always looked like a secretary instead of a student. She always had to have that RED lipstick and those pearls on! LOL! Now that I look back, that is what made her sooo special! Many people did not understand her, but to understand her you had to have known her struggle and trials to love her! She was one of my friends and eventually found out that she was my cousin.
While working at Nash General, I had the privilege to be with her when she took her last breath. I can still remember what our last conversation was. What do you tell one of your bestfriends when they ask/tell you that I am going to die today. Being the person that I am I tried to assure her that she had to stay strong for her daughter and fight! She looked into my eyes, told me to tell her daughter and boyfriend that she loved them and she left me standing there and she went to heaven. We (NGH employees) worked on her for such a long time, but in my heart I knew when she left. I think of Latasha often and wonder if I had one more second, what could I have done differently.
I did all that I could do and I tried to save her. I started her CPR and for every compression, my tears would fall. At that moment I remembered that I had the chance to tell her that I loved her, but her daughter would never know her like her friends and loved ones knew her.
Tasha, that last conversation changed the way I saw life and death and I thank you for the lessons that we taught each other in your last moments.
Always~Yevette
