Allen Charles Hays, September 12, 1949 - June 14, 2021

Allen Hays, a retired CPA and long-time resident of Westlake and Marblehead, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on June 14, 2021.

Al is survived by his daughters Alison Muth (J.R.), Amy Kitzberger (Ryan), and Laura McCulloch (Greg); his long-time partner Maria Yankey; his grandchildren Alexa, Elise, Landon, Aidan, Tyler, Anna, Trevor Aubrey, Brynlee, Lenna, Hadley, Carrigan, and Hayes; his sister Sharon Harrell; as well as his bonus children and grandchildren Shaun (Kelsey) White, Paul (Katie) White, Mikel (Josh) Waszczak, Mathis, Steven and Westen. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 25 years Donna Hays and parents Charles and Margaret Hays.

Al grew up in Rocky River, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie which is where is love of boating began. He and his father spent the summer days sailing on the lake and spent 3 years building a 35 foot sail boat – the Flibity Jib – in their back yard. He was a graduate of Rocky River High School and continued his education at The Ohio State University where he graduated in business. He spent his career in accounting, CPA and finance at General Electric, Figgie International and Forest City Enterprises. Al’s motto was always work hard - play harder.

Al was a devoted father, papa, husband, partner and friend who was always ready for a good time. Whether it was in the basement playing pool and listening to music or listening to Mad Dog at Put-in-Bay. In fact, if you look close enough you’ll see a special message on the walls of the Round House – “For a Good Time, Call Al Hays”. His passion and happy place was being in Marblehead hanging out with family and friends as an active member and past commodore of Marine City Yacht Club; Channel Grove; and aboard Red Rider.

To all that he encountered, he was a funny, caring, compassionate, and giving friend. Even when going through difficult times, he saw the positive in a situation. He welcomed all cheerfully into his life and made them feel special and played an important part in so many lives. He always had a smile on his face and there wasn’t a bigger hype man to his kids and grandkids. He will deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 9:00-11:00 AM, with a funeral service taking place at 11:00 AM at the Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted.
