Dick Maurer Obituary
Dick "Coach" Maurer, St. Louis, Mo., died suddenly Jan. 15, 2004, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Sanctuary, Washington Street and Divide Avenue, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place.
Dick knew many people in North Dakota due to his involvement in the sports and business community. He was a former coach and general manager of the Dakota Wizards, served as a consultant to Mandan High Girls Basketball Summer Training Camps, and managed the Bosnian 'Hope Through Hoops' USA Basketball Tour which was sponsored by MDU Resources. Currently, Dick was affiliated with the University of Missouri St. Louis University Men's Basketball Team as a member of their coaching staff.
Though the scenery of coaching changed from high school to professional and from the U.S. to Europe, Dick's passion for the games of basketball and baseball never changed. He loved to teach, develop players, and compete. He will be remembered not only for his expertise as a coach and teacher but also for his encouragement of others.
As much as Dick loved sports, his love for his children, Todd and Jaime, was his top priority. This love and zest for life also extended to his siblings, friends and acquaintances. With Dick, no one was a stranger. We all love him and will remember the blessings he brought to our lives!
Dick is the beloved father and father-in-law of son, Todd (Jenny) Maurer, St. Louis, Mo., and daughter, Jaime Maurer, Kansas City, Mo.; dear brother of Patrick, Jim and Regina; cherished partner of Lori Ronningen, Bismarck; and dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many. We love you!
In Dick's memory, donations to the Dick Maurer Scholarship Fund may be remitted to Benedictine College and mailed to Todd Maurer, 1566 Buckhurst Court, Ballwin, Mo. 63021. This fund will help disadvantaged youth pursue a college education and involvement in sports.
