I knew Cheryl most of my life. Her family moved quite a bit. They would live in the county area of Roswell , then move to town area. Her dad, Roy Garrett, worked for MacDonald-Douglas in Torrance, CA.
They lived in that area of CA for several years. Cheryl and I attended Mountain View Elementary (now Mt. View middle school) in 2nd and 3rd grades. We lived (almost) next door to one another on S. Main. We also attended the Aldersgate United Methodist Church together. We were both attendants in in the wedding of Barbara J. Loy and Billy R. Garrett (11/66). Goodness, [ I haven't thought of this in years...] The Garretts had two children B. Garrett (eldest son) and Cheryl Garrett.
Cheryl had a degree in education and I recall visiting her at a private all-girl high school in Orange County, CA (about 1974), where she was the Vice-Principal. Cheryl married (Jan 1971) and man from southern CA, Clark A. Bruce. They had three children: Brett 1978-2019, Brent, and Brianna. Brent is deceased. I believe Clark and family live in TX and CA.
My husband, Larry Loy (RHS'65), was the best man at Bill and Barb's wedding in Roswell 1966; Bill was best man at Larry and my wedding in Roswell, 1966. We four dated when Bill was home on leave from his ship (USN: USS MonaKey), we got engaged the same day, we picked out our wedding ring sets together at Huff Jewelers. Married six days apart. After tours in the AirForce (Larry) and Navy (Bill) we all located in southern California. Bill and Larry joined Los Angeles Police Department six months apart. Cheryl visited often and we all shared many happy memories. Garretts (B & B) moved to Roswell, then Albuquerque, then Roswell (1975) and the Loys moved to Roswell in 1979. Bill got his degree at UNM, Albuquerque, NM and Larry got his degree at Compton Jr College, Compton, CA. Bill also worked as a private detective while in Roswell. He later joined the New Mexico State Police Department, then moved into Gaming Departments in NM, CO, and FL. Bill also has 2 sons. Larry joined the Roswell Police Department and worked for the City of Roswell for 35 years.
We continued our friendship with the Garretts, including Cheryl and Clark Bruce and children, while living in CA. Larry took pictures at Cheryl and Clark's wedding. After marrying Clark and Cheryl lived in southern CA (Orange & San Bernardino Counties) , with a short move to Mississippi before returning to CA.
In October 1979, Larry and I moved our family to Roswell. Cheryl and I corresponded regularly. She developed cancer in the early 1980s and finally subcomed to cancer October 1986 in CA.

Whenever I think of Cheryl, I remember a quite and quiet person with a beautiful smile, and a positive attitude about life in general. She touched many lives and always showed you a way to slow down and smell the flowers along the way.
