Billy passed away May 5, 2002.  This obituary is from the Durham Herald - May 7, 2002:

ROXBORO - James William (Billy) Alkins, 51, of 826 Chub Lake Loop Road died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Person Memorial Hospital. He was born in Person County. He is the son of the late William D. Alkins. He was employed with the J&S Contractors and he was an Army Vietnam Veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Alice G. Alkins Walker of Roxboro; his companion, Alice Fay Whitt of the home; one daughter, Amy Alkins Tilley of Durham; two grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Tilley; seven step-children; 14 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, May 8, 2002 in the Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. Bill Edwards and he Rev. Frankie Reaves officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Family Cemetery located on Highway 501 North of Roxboro. The family will receive friends 7 PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Stephen Whitt, 2481 John Brewer Road, Roxboro.

Honorary pallbearers will be A.G. Westbrooks, James Childress, John Whitt and Stephen Whitt.
