Classmate Mickey Clayton passed away on November 14, 2024, following several years of declining health, including two kidney transplants, dialysis, and in September 2024, he suffered a stroke.  

Michael Thomas Clayton Obituary

Michael Thomas Clayton (Mickey), of Hurdle Mills, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Willie Thomas Clayton and Rachael Foushee Clayton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Ray Clayton.

Mickey was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. A steward of the land, Mickey was a lifelong tobacco farmer and in 1990 fulfilled his dream of becoming a dairy farmer. He served on many volunteer agriculture committees throughout the years and is currently on Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors. He retired from the Hurdle Mills Volunteer Fire Department, after serving the community for 30 years. A true caretaker of the land, Mickey was most proud when, along with his father, Rock Hill Farm was named the North Carolina Conservation Farm Family of The Year in 2004.

Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Patsy Jones Clayton, son Michael Scott Clayton (Shelley), Step-children Alan Moore (Michelle), Beth Dowdy (James); grandchildren Ava Clayton, Grayson Wilkins and Aubrey Wilkins; Step mother Katy Clayton; special brother Isaac Rodriguez and a host of special cousins, family and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 3pm Sunday, November, 17 2024, at Mt. Zion Methodist Church with Reverend David King and Reverend Jeremiah Chapman officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Mt. Zion Methodist Church from 1:30-3:00.

Pall bearers will be Grayson Wilkins, Bill Hutchinson, Bunnie Clayton, Greg Blalock, Joey Pixley, Austin Jones, Blake Jones and Brandon Clayton.
