Kathryn Garrett Chambers McBroom, 62, of 2317 Halifax Rd., Roxboro, died Saturday, March 8, 2014. Born in Person County, Mrs. McBroom was the daughter of the late William Bruce and Mary Bailey Walthall Garrett. She was also preceded in death by her baby girl and stepson, Mark McBroom. Mrs. McBroom attended New Life Independent Baptist Church where she was a founder of the Scholarship Fund and also attended Impact Church of Reidsville. She worked at Duke University Medical Center for 25 years where she was a nurse manager and educator in Cardiology. In 2008, Mrs. McBroom was a research mentor, receiving the Duke Friends of Nursing Award, in 2009, the North Carolina great 100 Nurses Award, and multiple National presentations at National Nursing Convention. She received her ADN from Alamance Community College and her BSN from Winston Salem State University.
Mrs. McBroom is survived by her husband, Henry Lee McBroom,Jr.; her children, Steven Lynn Chambers and wife Teresa, Anna Kathryn Chambers Kirby and husband Adam, Jonathan McBroom and wife Tara, Nathan McBroom and Brandi Hawkins and husband Kevin; one brother, Marty Garrett and wife Robin, of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Debbie Horner, of Durham; seven grandchildren, Dylan Blake Kirby, Jessica Smith, Joshua Holland, Dixie McBroom, Daisy McBroom, Kayla Hawkins and Skylar Hawkins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Pastor Mike Whitt and the Pastor Mike Davis. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-800 PM Monday at the Brooks and White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Justin McBroom, Drew Smith, Ed Thornburg, Flynn Garrett, Blake Whitt, and Jason Davis.

I remeber Kathy as a very sweet soft spoken lovely girl. I am not at all surprised that she became a nurse and received the rewards and responsibilities of her job. She will be missed by many family and friends.
