He was a native of Person County and a member of the Greater Bethlehem Temple of the Apostolic Faith Church in Durham, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Osmond and Josephine Royster Smith; a daughter, Rhonda Davis; and a brother, Roy Carlton. He is survived by his wife, Helen Smith of the home; four children: Jessica Jackson, Justin Slade, Reka Smith and Michael Smith, Jr. (Nyla), all of Roxboro; eleven sisters and brothers: Marjorie Long (John) of Semora, NC, Osmond Smith (Minnie) of Durham, NC, Veronica Torain, Jerry Smith (Arlene), John Smith (Bertis), Jacqueline Harris, Beverly Murphy and Joseph Smith (Anita), all of Roxboro, Cassandra Barnes (Reginald) of New Bern, NC, Tonya Thompson (David) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Tameika Smith, also of Roxboro; nine grandchildren; six aunts: Shirley King and Octavis McGhee, both of Steubenville, OH, Donice Parrish and Thomasina Stinson, both of Columbus, OH, Brenda McGhee of Brooklyn, NY and Darlene Turner (John) of Albright, PA; three uncles: Robert Smith (Dorothy) of Leasburg and Floyd Owen and Tony McGhee, both of Steubenville, OH; and a host of other additional relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 2:00pm at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 305 Walker Street, Roxboro, NC 27573 with Bishop Larry Copeland providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the St. James Baptist Church Cemetery, 1065 Solomon Lea Road, Leasburg, NC 27291. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 2:00pm to 7:00pm with the family present during the last hour from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
