Kenneth (Buzz) (Goofy) Long (12-18-05 RIP)...was my very 1st childhood friend. We spent many days riding bikes, playing kickball and other childish things. We grew up in the same neighborhood for quite a few years and when we moved to the Allensville community, we were within walking distance for him through the woods. I never got brave enough to try that!!! LOL We actually were still very close when he passed away and to this day, it's still hard to grasp. I'm fortunate to have called him a friend and I'll post a poem I left for him at his gravesite a year after he passed. It'll pretty much display our relationship.

A year ago today.... I lost my first childhood friend- Kenneth Lee Long.
He was someone that I always thought would be in my life because he was like a brother to me.
It was just like that with us.

When I heard the shocking news that day,
It came as a total surprise.
Memories of us riding our bikes together on Woody St.
Came pouring into my mind.
And as teenagers- both of us getting into things we shouldnt have- Cuz our mom's would have tanned our hides.
It was just like that with us.

Whenever we'd meet - our conversations would always creep-Back to younger days & yesterdays that would have or could have been.
It was just like that with us.

All the times at Chasers- I can still hear him now. "Ya gonna sing my song tonight baby?"
To which I'd reply...."Only if you'll sing one for me too"
This was our on-going dance...
It was just like that with us.

He called me that Saturday nite before he passed & I missed his call- To this day, I think that troubles me most of all.
I could have talked some more junk with him, laughed at ourselves or maybe even cried with him that one last time.
It was just like that with us.

He was my lifetime "boyfriend" & everybody knew...
Including his wife Tonya & their beautiful daughters Sharon and Tiffany too...
It was just like that with us.

I miss you man & today these tears fill my eyes.
But I do know that one day soon we will talk again & stroll together side by side.

For there's one thing I'm sure of my friend.
It will ALWAYS be like that with us.

I always had Homeroom with Kenneth and about 10 other Longs'. They must have made up half the county! I think Senior year was when I got to know "Goofy" alot better. He started working at Roses with us as a "stockboy" as we called it back then. We had a good time cutting up in the back of the store and hiding from Old Man Overton and Mr. Rogers. We used to race/ride pallet jacks down the main aisle after the store closed and crush weird things in the cardboard bailer. I can remember so distinctly one afternoon after school him cruising through Roses parking lot blasting Tone Loc's "On Fire"... He always made everyone laugh with just his natural antics.
