Dean Hipwell passed away on December 20, 2022, at his home in Clinton, Utah. He was born on March 18, 1953, the second child of Willis Ray and Frances Draayer Hipwell.
He grew up in Roy, attended Weber County schools, and graduated from Roy High in 1971. Dean had a love of sports, lettering in track, football, and wrestling.
He was big in stature, but had a kind, soft heart. After graduation, Dean attended Ricks College in Idaho where he met the love of his life, Carol Ilene Piquet. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple on May 25, 1973. They were blessed with three children: Jason, Jamie and Jodi.
Dean was dedicated to providing for his family. He worked on the Piquet family farm in Idaho for several years. Eventually, they moved to Clearfield, Utah, and then settled in West Point where they raised their children. Dean and Carol spent the last seven years in Clinton.
Most of Dean’s career was with Thiokol Corporation.
Because of his joking personality and ability to make people laugh, he made many good friends at work. Dean loved nature and the beauty of the outdoors, especially Lake Powell where he spent vacations with family and friends. Keeping a garden, tending fruit trees, and being a hobby farmer were the activities in which he found happiness throughout his life. He enjoyed going to livestock auctions, and always had some combination of a cow, horse, goat, and chickens to look after.
Dean was a passionate bargain hunter. If he had a lifelong hobby, it was “antiquing” at local garage sales with Carol. He always experienced joy in finding a great deal. He was a frugal man as well as a generous one, often sacrificing his own wants for those of his children. Dean will be remembered for his sarcasm, pranks, and the relentless teasing of his grandkids and great-grandkids; for this, they will fondly remember their grandpa. He liked to joke with those he worked with and served alongside.
Dean loved the gospel and had a deep love for his Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He was often found studying the scriptures and dedicated his life to serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he held many positions. One of his favorite callings was working with the Special Needs Mutual. Dean and Carol were called as Humanitarian Service Missionaries in Salt Lake City and enjoyed it so much they continued their service even after the official end of their mission.
Surviving Dean is his wife, Carol Hipwell, Clinton, Utah; children: Jason (Tanya) Hipwell, Jamie (Mandee) Hipwell, Jodi (Jesse) Brown; eleven grandchildren: Jair (MK), Makayla, Jordan (Joel), Blake, Tyler (currently serving in the Ghana Accra West Mission), Jacey, Avery, Ryan, Jax, Haden and Tyson; three great-grandchildren: Jenson, Jett, and Enzo; siblings: Rex (Lynette) Hipwell, Lonny (Cynthia) Hipwell, and Rae Devlin; in-laws: Joan Nykamp, Idonna Murray, Cherrie (Gordon) Allen, Nola (Dave) Bryan, Annalee (Reid) Knudsen, Sue (Lance) Stoker, Vernon (Cynthia) Piquet, and Spencer Piquet; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and numerous loved ones. https://www.myers-mortuary.com/obituary/Dean-Hipwell
