Nadean Louise Ulrich Moore---Dec. 21, 1935---Aug. 20, 2023
Nadean, Ma to everyone who loved her, and 87-year-old, resident of Paul, ID, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
Born in the area of Clover, Idaho, at her grandparent Werner's home, on Dec. 21, 1935. Daughter of Alfred and Hulda Ulrich. She was the oldest of 6 siblings, and only the 2nd to pass, losing the younger brother just last year.
Nadean graduated from Rupert High School in 1954, being one of just 100 graduating students. She was part of a unique generation. A generation that had climbed out of a depression, self taught themselves many hobbies and skills, knew the implications of war, could survive on the food they grew, processed, and canned themselves. This perseverance showed in every aspect of Nadean's life.
Nadean met her husband, our Papa, Irvine, on May 20, 1954, and she wrote, "seven and a half months later, I received my diamond on Dec. 23rd." They were married June 5, 1955. They shared 51 years together until his passing in 2006. In those years they spent time bowling with family, traveling, and camping with their kids and grandchildren. Camping became a yearly tradition for many, many years even after Irvine's passing, and the place many of our dearest memories were made.
From the marrige came 3 daughters, Kathie, Jackie, and Penny. Throughout Nadean's years of raising her own children, she also babysat several other children in her home. She has photos and a notebook of names of each child she cared for from 1968-1999, spanning generations, from her own children to her 7 grandchildren. We have fond memories of her less than desirable lunches that we all became accustomed to smothering with ketchup to choke down, something that has become a habit for several of us, that we still do. This made it a treat if she chose to make us Schwan's frozen pizzas rather thatn cook. Although she would rarely cuss, we did still learn a few words or phrases, that the rest of the kids on the playground weren't saying, things like "honeyock," or "nimcompoop," "heavens to murgatroud," and our personal favorites, "how time," and ":what much."
Nadean started to work the paper route with her oldest grandson Todd when he asked her if he could do it. After Todd, David Jr., inherited the route. After Jr., she continued to run the paper route for several years. All of her grandkids have memories of stuffing ads in the papers in the mornings, folding them and wrapping them with rubber bandfs, before she drove us around Paul and had us runup to the porches. She put good use to the free labor she could get out of us kids. She was later recognized at the Rupert Parade for her committment to the paper and to her community.
Nadean took great pride in her yard, and had several ribbons from her entries at the Minidoka fair for her beautiful flowers.
Nadean was a woman with unique interests. She loved the color purple, puzzles, more recently diamond paintings, panda bears, crocheting, humming birds, her yellow Volkswagen (with way too may stuffed animals on the dash), but most of all she loved Kobe Bryant. We're certain that Kobe and Papa were waiting in heaven, and without a doubt she ran to Kobe first, with knees that finally didn't hurt. She had written Kobe Bryant day on her calendar (8/24), we just didn't realize she planned to celebrate with him in heaven this year. She was a woman that kept track of everything, she has stacks and stacks of paper calendars, that on each day she wrote what the weather was like and any interesting thaing she might have done that day, including if it was "hairdo" day.
Nadean had been a member of the Trinity Luthern Church first in Clo0ver, then in Rupert for all of her life. Her faith was important to her, and she always made it a prioity to be at church. Our Ma had a beautiful voice, she loved singing hymns at church.. If you walked into the church after service had started, the first thing you'd hear and recognize is Nadean's singing. She has several certificates for her role as a Sunday school teacher.
We weren't ready to give her up and say goodbye. While she lived some years without us, we know nothing but life with her. We miss you already Ma, and we love you so much.
Nadean is survived by her 3 daughters, Kathie Free, Jackie (David) Garcia, and Penny (Monte) Brown; 7 grandchildren: Todd Free (Tawnya) David Garcia Jr. (Kassie), Ashley Dimond, Kandace Pettigrew (Brett), Danyell Searle (Dratin), Dezirae Garcia, Koday Dalton (Mikalia); the most recent joy in her life, her 6 great-grandkids, Taneisha Garcia, Charlee Dimond, Presley Pettigrew, Zayden Granillo, Berkley Pettigrew; her siblings: LaVerne Johnson, LeRoy Ulrich, Lucille Vaughn, Dale Ulrich; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Irvine Moore; Her parents Alred & Hulda Ulrich; and her brother Daniel Ulrich; as well as her 2 dogs that she loved so much, Annie and Ellie.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday Aughst 26, 2023 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Rupert. There will be a private burial service at a later date.
