Georgianne was given the name Annapurna in 1971 by Neem Karoli Baba (Mahara-ji) with whom she studied in India.  She was a spiritual seeker who travelled and studied extensively in India and Nepal and became a practicing Buddhist.  She finally settled in Marin County, eventually becoming a licensed acupuncturist and part owner of Pine Street Clinic in San Anselmo, California, and in March 2007 was honored as one of Marin's 100 Magnificent Women.  She had two children:  a daughter, Sara, who lives in Boston and a son, Nicholas, who lives in New York.

Annapurna co-produced and did vocals on two CDs - Beyond the Beyond and Mother of the Mystery and did vocals on a third, Slow Music for Yoga.  (See beyondthebeyondmusic.com.)

Annapurna died suddenly of natural causes on June 8, 2007, apparently while meditating.  We had been friends for fifty years, since Starr King days, and were roommates in San Francisco after graduating from college.  For several years before she died, she, Pam Mellin, another friend and I got together for semi-regular dinners, the last one being the night before she died.

She always looked forward to the class reunions and know how much she would have enjoyed this one.

Diane Thanks for the update. It helps with closure. I am glad you stayed so close to her all these years.

I had not heard from Georgianne/Annapurna since graduation. A few months before she died I got in touch with her through Diane Dibble . We e-mailed a few times and I was hoping to see Georgianne the next time I got together with Diane.  So I was very surprised and saddened when I heard about her passing from her son. I am glad that we were in touch for a short time. I think of her often.

Thanks, Diane.  That '71 group has a lot of influential people.  Ram Dass, Sharon Salzberg "Faith, Trusting Your...", Daniel Goleman "Emotional Intelligence", Krishna Das...

These guys are able to look underneath the differences and see everyone as the same.

There's nice picture of Georginne taken in 1971 in India.  It's in a book that just came out (2015): "love everyone" by parvati markus page 103.
