I love what Robert wrote. I too was part of the Joaquin Miller gang and a good friend of Dorothy. Time goes on and we lose touch with special people. I am saddened to hear that she passed at such a young age.

Thank you, Robert, for sharing your memories. You did such a great job of describing the events, in such detail... I felt I was right there with you.
I knew Dorothy but, like so many classmates, I didn't really know her. Thank you for the opportunity to know more about Dorothy and your relationship with her and other classmates.
I too was sadden when I learned she had died... but happy to have you help keep her memory alive.

Robert, you touched my heart! Dorothy was a beautiful girl! She had that smile and starry eyes that melted you more so than Elizabeth Taylor's looks!! We girls use to take the longer way home from Joaquin Miller to go by her house first after school grab an Ott's ice cream, share stories etc.
I didn't know that Alvin was interested in me at the time. If I remember right, Dorothy had your ring around her neck (going steady) in high school. I also was saddened to hear of her passing.I didn't know of it until I tapped in on this website!
Yes, she was too young! Glad you're staying in touch with her daughter, I'm sure that she's very appreciative of everything coming from you. See you at the reunion.

Thank you everyone for your comments about Dorothy. You have brought back many memories. I was part of that group who went to Dorothy's house every day after school in Junior High School. We even hung out together on week-ends. We were close neighbors--Dorothy lived on the corner of Alma and Stover Way, right behind Inks Brothers Grocery Store and Ott's Ice Cream. I lived 8 houses down from her on Stover Way. I think we were friends in elementary school too, at Hollywood Park. I really liked Dorothy--she was shy, but a very nice, sweet girl, and a faithful friend. And she had the most beautiful blue eyes! I can still remember her mom and sister, and every detail of that house. Amazing! Dorothy and I were best of friends in junior high, and then high school and boys happened. I didn't see her after high school until I went to several class reunions over the years. We sat together at one of them and talked--she was still that same beautiful girl. I didn't know about her passing until I read it here on this web site. Much too young... Dorothy was one of my childhood friends that I never forgot about over the years, even though we didn't stay in touch. It was good to learn some of the details of her life. I will always remember her.

Nice write-up Bob on Dorothy..
I too was part of the Joaquin Miller group from 7th to part of 8th, then due to zoning changes..I went to Cal Jr High then C.K. McClatchy. I remember Patty & I use to tell others that we were brother and sister due to our last name "Chan". Like Alvin, I too had a crush on Patty as well. But we were all pretty shy then.

I enjoyed reading the comments and having the memories rekindled. Dorothy was very sweet and never had a negative thing to say about anyone. I was very touched by the stories and saddened to learn of her passing away so young.
